Doing a routine spot rust treatment forces me to remove the dreaded sill trim and I unearth this.... Safe to say I was a little concerned, so, question on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is this, what should I be buying in the way of steel sections and rough idea of £££ to be spent. This is the off side so I expect the near side to be similar but probably worse. Welding is not my bag so it will be offered to those that can!! I guess you seasoned owners have seen this and will probably say, yeah, whatever but anything helpful appreciated .[frame][/frame]

IF this is the only rot - hasn't progressed to the underside causing SERIOUS structural issues - paint liberally with engine oil, refit the cover and check it in 6mths.

Coating with oil will attract dirt that will stick to the area, that dirt will hold moisture and that will cause even more rust. The picture shows two previous very poor repairs to the floor. Take the vehicle to a Minor specialist that understands the vehicles construction. Avoid the anyone that says they will weld it cheaply to get it through an MOT.

I don't think that is TOO bad, but as above: Take it to somebody who can carry out a proper repair to the underside (there is probably corrosion to the crossmember and undersill - the jacking point seems to have disappeared) as well as the boxing panel. Get the whole area repaired properly and THEN protect it with a rust preventative inside and out. It'll then last for years and years .

As for costs, only the person who's going to DO the job and has seen the car can tell you what its going to cost I'm afraid.

Don't assume the other side will be the same, they rarely are.

Many thanks to replies and to your comment ManyMinors. Looking at it in the cold light of day seems I will definitely want parts of boxing section. Now on the photo the bottom section has been 'repaired/patched before. Now I want a pukka job done so my question is this part sill outer?
I have had the cross member repaired recently so this is sound and the jacking point was removed before I purchased the vehicle - I wouldn't use it anyway.
Again help and advice greatly received.

It's definitely a bodge up job - the boxing plate has been cut away to get at the sill/floor. Is it an ex Charles Ware car by any chance?

charles ware has since passed away sso i think its a bit insensitive at the moment to bring his name into it

I think Charlie was a giant in the Morris Minor world and made a great contribution to this hobby. Some of his ideas on bringing the car back into production were a bit radical but never boring. Regarding the quality of his restorations, he has done 3 for me and they have been hard to fault ( but even harder on the wallet!)

To make you feel a little better, I removed the sill trim on my Morris this weekend.
I've rated mine an 8.
