Cracked carb float chamber lid

The lid to the float chamber on my carb has developed a crack and leaks fuel... not a good thing. Trying to track down a replacement. Can anyone point to a definitive source for these?

It's the same place!

Just try one of the many Minor traders who have second hand bits. People on here tend to only use or recommend the major suppliers like ESM, Bull Motif and Charles Ware, but forget all the other smaller traders who are likely to have all these second hand bits and bobs. Take a look in the club mag at the adverts to find someone. If you're really stuck, I've a couple of complete carbs, but would rather sell them as complete units.

Hi Ian. Measure the diameter of the lid and see it you can find a part of the same size on the websites suggested. As it's centre fixing you can swivel the lid round to accommodate the different inlet pipe angle. Be careful over tightening will cause it to crack! If you can't match a top replace the carb with a second hand one they are not that dear. Good luck :D

As a repair, you could always groove the crack out and fill it with JB Weld, which is a steel loaded epoxy.

I know its glue and is a little bit of a bodge but it really is damned good stuff, once it goes off it gets a really good hold.

It would probably last forever like it, but would certainly do while you fnd one. The auction site is the cheapest place to get it.

Looks like it maybe from old 1 1/2's with brass linkages underneath, if so perhaps not too easy to find spares.

Regarding using JB weld to patch the crack, I've found that modern fuel w/ethanol in it will slowly soften up the JB weld.

Here you are:-

Les
Some 1 1/2" carbs have the small diameter float chamber and some have the large diameter float chamber and is dependent upon application.
I have had both sizes fitted on 1 1/2" carbs fitted to my Minor in the past.
To overcome fuel surge/fuel starvation you can buy float chamber extensions to increase the capacity of the float chamber. Useful if you have large jets and small float chambers.

Sorry, folks, been neglecting this as busy elsewhere. Here are pics of the carb in situ:

Can someone definitively identify the type? I've sent the pics to Burlen to see if they can help.
