Morris Minor Owners Club

About a year ago I was left a two owner 1960 Morris Minor Traveller in blue with only 55,000 miles on the clock.

I had her picked up on a flatbed and delivered to my local garage where she was checked over to ensure she was running fine.

Due to work commitments she has sat in my relatives garage since and I finally put in a new battery to get her MOT'd (the previous MOT ran out in Feb 2015).

She starts every time and ran down to the MOT fine.

On inspection the MOT centre has advised that she's going to need some welding along the rear of the chassis.

I haven't got the time to do this and will therefore look to put her up for sale so that someone else can restore her.

Can anyone advise where is the best place to advertise a Morris Minor Traveller (I will put an advert on here)?

And what price should I advertise a running, but not MOT'd Morris Minor Traveller for?

I'm afraid that's a 'how long is a piece of string ' question. So many things will affect the value. Did the garage give an estimate for the welding? How good is the wood? Etc. The car looks quite good in the pictures though. You might be better to get the welding done,get the MOT and then advertise her.

That a lovely original looking car, the woods not really rotten and it has the original lights and Trafficators. Mines a 61 and the interior is a nightmare (original 2nd hand) to find as it's the wide slat leather. In this condition, needing minimal work for an MOT, I would say it's worth £2250 to £3000. Original MOT'd Travellers not needing work start from £3500 now. Good Luck

A: No, but they referred me to a specialist.

Q: How good is the wood?
A: The wood is solid, but needs refinishing as the existing finish is peeling (I believe danish teak oil is best?) The two points around the roof drainholes on right/left at the back are where it's most stained.

I thought it was best not to recoat as someone might want to finish it in a different way.

It's a tricky one this. If you wanted to keep the car everyone would think 'what a good place to start from '. I guess you have to decide whether to sell it as it is or invest a bit in the hope of getting a better price. I know that my trav was bought by Charles Wares in 2009 ( no mot, needed welding etc.) for less than £2 k. With new wood and a few upgrades they probably made a few bob selling it on to me and everyone was happy. Guess it all depends on how much hassle you want to make a few more pounds.

Get the welding done and a nice new MOT - then advertise it on here - it WILL sell!

OK, I now know the car was made in Cowley as it has the M/AW3 chassis prefix. If Chassis prefix is MAW3/ it's an Abingdon built car and if it's M/AW3 it's a Cowley built car. (The position of "/" being the indicator).

By the chassis number it's a Early 1000 (Series III), so 948cc OVH which were built between October 1956 > September 1962.

This ties in with the documents as it was 1st registered on 24th September 1960.

Welcome from another Abingdon built Traveller! Mine's a July '62. I agree with the above - get the work done as it will greatly increase the sale price. Good cars always sell fast.

My Morris Minor Traveller is now on eBay if any MMOC members are interested please let me know.
