Hi,

I've got a horrible scraping noise when I'm driving along. It sounds like it could be N/SF but not 100%. I've had a look around online and looks like it could be the wheel bearing. I've got no idea really what I'm doing.

Is anyone by any chance local to Kidderminster and able to take a look? Or know of a garage locally that would know what they're doing?

What am I looking for visually if I do look at the wheel bearing?

Jack up the car one wheel at a time (observe normal safety precautions) and spin the wheel that is off the ground. You might be able to find from where the sound originates, which is half the battle. Do you have standard brakes, or a disc conversion? If the latter, then it could the the stone guard making the noise, or very worn pads.

It's still got the standard brakes - plans to convert to discs eventually. The car had been sat for a long time until I bought it in April, so probably just worn out.

I will try the jacking tomorrow to hopefully isolate the sound.

Jack up and push-pull the wheel. Don't drive the car......

If left standing for a long while, it might just be rust on the inside of the drums, but that normally clears within a few yards, so definitely locate the source of the sound and then take the drum off to investigate.
