Heya guys I was hoping to get some advice on breakdown cover
Keep forgetting to do it but need it done before the nationals
So what would everyone recommend for breakdown cover
Is the RAC discount worth doing?
What options would be best to choose
Would I be better off adding the breakdown cover to my insurance with FJ?

If you're already insured with FJ then I would recommend ringing them and adding the cover to your existing policy.

but check you may already be covered mine with footman james came automatically with the premium

Be very careful when buying Breakdown cover. I used to be with the RAC until 2 weeks ago for my modern. I had full membership £78 a year. I broke down with a snapped drive shaft at 1.30 in the morning, very helpful operator on the phone, transporter was there in under 45 mins. Post arrived this morning with a bill from the RAC for £178 Mileage. As I'd asked to be recovered home there was a mileage charge of £1 per mile if I'd asked to go an approved garage the recovery would have free although I would have had to pay for a hotel for Two nights as the nearest approved garage was closed until Monday, not so helpful. So I read the small print 'No cover with 1/2 mile of home address' further on in the conditions it said 'A chargeable fee applies if you request to be transported home outside of 10 miles from your home address'. What am I paying £78 a year for if I can't brake down with these limits. Am now back with CSMA, same price even have European cover and mileage charge even outside of UK.

The responsible Classic Insurance Cos INCLUDE Roadside repairs and Recovery FREE with the classic car cover. RH certainly do. If you don't have that with your policy - consider changing Insurers.... Note also that some of the usual 'Breakdown' cover policies exclude cars over a certain age...and they may just forget to tell you when you take the cover....

I have been with the AA for quite some time now and would recommend them to anyone. I need full European cover as over the Border in Southern Ireland were I go to the occasion car show is considered Europe and ordinary cover doesnt do it. Its expensive at around £140 a year but it includes all there extras with the exception of Home Start as Id just take another minor . When I had a half shaft go enroute to Cornbury Park for the National they took my word over the phone that I needed recovery as it wasnt going to be a quick fix and back on the road job and recovered me to the rally.

Just make sure the recovery firm will do classic cars, as some do not. the current Green Flag advert on TV indicates the car has to be under 10 years old.

I would also recommend RH Insurance. The cover includes breakdown, and repairs or recovery home. Get a quote from them even though you are already insured and check it out.
Their charges are amongst the best even though their cover is so excellent. Even if you write you car off, they give you your car back with no charges when the insurance claim is settled.
I have never heard a bad word against them from anyone, which says something.

Seconded there - they happily let me add on my TR7 for a few months each summer, with no stupid extra charges - just pay for the months it is on.

My van is with FJ and has breakdown cover included . My MG is insured with peter Best and has breakdown cover included with the AA and my MG broke down with fuel pump failure and they were with me within the hour and were as good as gold . When I had an A35 van I was with RH and that had breakdown cover and I think they are Green Flag as I had to use them as I broke a half shaft . I had to change from RH when I bought my Morris van as they had never heard of a Morris Minor

Must just depend upon who you talk to... Even the best insurers get it wrong sometimes.

I would do but being age 19 and being my first car it's harder than you think to even be accepted by any insurance company hense why I'm with FJ also looked at all the big breakdown company's ans they all want the car to be under 10 years

Hmm is that breakdown cover with FJ an FJ+ then as I'm thinking it could be the easiest and best way to go aslong as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg

On my policy I have unlimited mileage and have breakdown cover because I use my van a couple of times a week and it lives outside and is the only cover I could get at the time as my MG insurance and a couple of others would not cover me to use it for work.

Yeah I already have a policy with FJ seems like their breakdown cover is the best one to go for aswell then
