Rear window side window removal 2 door saloon

Post by thebmw1200gsa »

I have had a look on the various topics but could not find anything on how to remove the subject title.
The time has come to remove, intact hopefully, the small rear window and side windows on my 1950 2 door.
Is it a case of just pushing them out from inside the car, or is there a more technical way to do it?
I will be replacing the rear with an electrically heated one, but would like to keep all of them intact.

Also need to replace the split screen glass as it has one or two slight imperfections and I am going to have the car bead blasted.
Anyone how could shed some light on this I would be very grateful.

Is the Sandringham rally going ahead this Sunday?
If so what are the times and location?
Thanks

You'll need to push the windows in from outside - or, if you're going to fit new rubbers anyway, you could just cut around then with a sharp blade.

If it's original, then watch out for a metal retaining clip hidden in the rubber. It's just one flat piece (but bent around the glass, if that makes sense), about 1/2 inch across, usuallu in the middle of the long curve. This will need to be carefully manipulated.

Thank you, is the metal strip in the front screen?

It's not the visible "chrome" strip that goes round the front screen, this is a small hidden thing, more like a clip. Having checked two cars today, it might be on the curve of the glass, on on the straight vertical edge - probably depends on who refitted the glass, so I would investigate right round the whole side rubber.
