A couple of questions..

Hi all, I am new to the forum. Just bought my first morris, a 58 4 door. Got the best one I could for my money and it seems like a good un. I have a little mechanical knowledge.
I have a couple of questions. My car has had what seems like a bit of oil come out if the exhaust pipe, it does not smoke but a few spatters on the drive. Should I be worried?
Also the breather pipe from the top of the engine to the air intake / carb is missing. Would it have been for a reason? Seems to run ok.
It's has 39k on the clock but it has a replacement engine at some point but only like for like. It also recently had all engine gaskets replaced and a new exhaust.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Barry

Marks on the drive - this is, most likely, not oil, but carbon deposits being cleared out of the exhaust pipe.
If the car has been standing idle for some time, you will get water (condensation) build-up inside the cold steel of the exhaust system.
Is your car an "every day" driver, or have you only used it infrequenty?
Welcome to the Forum, by the way, and to Moggy ownership :D
George.

Hi George thanks for the welcome. It has had very little use probably only a handful of miles in the last 6 months, the new exhaust was fitted about 6 months ago. It did not smell like burnt oil which is why I asked. Any thoughts on the breather hose? I will probably just get one and fit it and see if it adversly affects the running.
Ps I have only had the car a day and we do intend for it to be a daily car.

Buy yourself a length of 1/2 in bore heater hose, it will be useful for all sorts of things, engine breather pipe, water pump bypass hose etc. Remember it is not a modern car, you cannot just get in it and drive away, you need to be familiar with what goes on under the bonnet, regular checks of oil and water, frequent greasing and for your first run stop after a max one hours driving or before getting on the motorway and check that everything is normal. Carry a spare can of oil and water container, and your breakdown recovery card

As above - the breather hose is essential - fit one right away - and make sure the pipes each end are clear...

Hello Barry,
Any chance of a digital photo of your engine bay? There were numerous versions of engine breathers and air intake filters.
Some were, just simply, downward facing crankcase breather pipes!
Regards, George.
