Upper trunnion grease nipple

Hi all,
Used my new grease gun for the very first time yesterday

on one of the two upper trunnions but got a bit stuck, literally....the gun end won't come off the nipple. Swivels around nicely but will not pull off at all

.
I think its because the gun is brand new and so the sprung clips at the end are very strong. I unscrewed the grease nipple so i could take it and the gun to the bench to give it some real force....still no luck
So anyway, while i work out how to separate those, i need to replace the grease nipple off the upper trunnion and i see that grease nipples are fairly cheap on ebay but does anyone know what size please?
Thanks
Matt
Ps: and if anyone has any ideas for the nipple stuck in the grease gun then pls shout

I think some have an adjuster on the nozzle that controls the 'clamping force' of the springs.
Unfortunately, depending on whether your trunnions have been replaced, they could be a different thread/size from the originals.
I think reproduction top trunnions tend to use a much smaller nipple/drilling than the originals.
As for the stuck nipple, you may have some success with mole grips. Otherwise, perhaps a self tapping screw into the nipple to grip the bit inside the nozzle and a good pull may free it.
I sympathise with you entirely, remembering as a youngster greasing the nipples on my dad's '42 Slat Grill Willys MB and pulling the head off one of the spring shackle grease nipples!

Remember it is not just supposed to pull off straight, you roll the gun off if that makes sense, say the nipple is upright and you have the gun vertical on it, push the grease gun over and it should release.

ok, thanks both, will try the pull/roll off to the side option on the grease gun.

I would screw the grease nipple back on the car while you try the suggested technique, so that you have the luxury of some
resistance to pull against.

yep, screwed it back on and the above method worked a treat
I even felt brave enough to try it back on and off a couple more times to perfect my 'technique', I'm a bona-fide expert now

If they were not so expensive (~£20) I would try one of those zerk/gurtech lock on couplers. I pulled a trunnion grease nipple out trying to free a connector once.

Excellent glad you have perfected it, as said above don't just wrench it off, mine takes some coaxing to release now and again.
