Can I replace the jet on my HS2 carb without taking the wholw thing off?

As you know from your previous helpful comments I have had problems with the engine stopping after running for a few minutes. So far I have - blown down fuel pipe from tank - changed fuel pump for new - cleaned out float chamber
and blown down pipe to jet - given it new plugs - and new coil. It runs at tickover quite well for a few minutes but opening throttle stops it as does lifting piston with pin. Adjusting the mixture does not cure it. ( if lifted the piston falls smothly back down with a click.) Leaving it for another few minutes it will start and repeat the process. Sorry guys I don't know why I seem to have got this heading in twice.

It's not going to be the jet.... Remove the carb bell and piston and with a bit of pipe blow down the jet to see if it's clear.... But honestly, it will be. SUs don't choke easily!

Have you checked for air leaks on the inlet manifold and gaskets ?
If lifting the piston or opening the carb make it die i'd think air leak.

Be good to remove the carb bell if I could undothe screws which just chewing up. This whole episode is an aarrrgh affair.
I did blow through the jet using the little pipe from the float chamber. Seemed OK. Can't see any leak on the inlet side. Maybe am not looking hard enough. Could be one on the dammed join of exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe. Scottie what is your name please?

Just gently tap the screwdriver while applying twist on the screws. They WILL come out.....
