Indicators, Wipers and Fuel Gauge Gone

Hi All,

I've had an intermittent issue with my fuel gauge moving all over the place and my indicators some times not working and wipers taking AGES to kick in when switched on. Now all three have completely died, and will not work AT ALL.

Looking at the wiring diagram it points towards the instrument voltage stabiliser, but would that knock them out completely if It had failed? I have a modern electrical flasher relay on my indicators, rather than the original thermal one (not sure if that would make any difference?).

I can't seem to buy a voltage stabiliser ANYWHERE because they're not made new and ESM etc do not have second-hand ones in stock. I'm damned if this is what kills off the car! Does anyone have one knocking about that they know works? That is, if you think that's the root of the problem.

All advice appreciated!

These work well, I fitted one on my camper when the original one packed up.

Far more likely to be the fuse - probably just a grubby fusebox

The voltage stabiliser only affects the fuel gauge. The supply to all the items you mention is via the 'ignition fed' fuse - check the fuse and the contacts in the fuse box. It sounds like you have dirty contact?? Also try swapping the fuse for a known good one.

Nothing to do with the stabiliser (as others have noted) look to the fuse box, clean all the contacts and the fuse ends - maybe even treat it to two new 35 amp fuses.

Hi all, replaced both fuses and gave the fusebox a good clean. Now working as good as gold, didn't notice that one of the fuse caps had snapped off from the main glass body of the fuse making it completely useless! Thanks all!
