What ho, chums!

In case you're not aware the Beast is on the streets again. Keep a sharp lookout in your rear view mirrors!

Here they start it for the first time

And here its on its running around the Duke of Richmond's back garden

Awesome! Over 6 litres per cylinder - no wonder its leaping about when it first started! I missed seeing it in real life at the new Chateau Impney Hillclimb last weekend, but a friend at work gave me a first hand description :D

I had a most enjoyable last evening in the company of friends and The Beast Of Turin. 8)
Duncan Pitway the owner and restorer of The Beast gave an illustrated talk of the early history of The Beast and the restoration.

300hp at 1000rpm says it all and 70mph in first and up to 140mph in top and all on those skinny tyres :D .[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame] Note the correct position of my thumb. [frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Nice pictures Phil! And glad to see you kept your thumb outside the starting handle too! Was the ignition fully retarded?

If you want to read a little history of the Beast see here http://theoldmotor.com/?p=134463 And the video is a clip of the actual land speed record attempt in 1913 at Ostend - silent film of course! It doesn't look like ideal weather for such a venture. I see that to get to the Saltburn trials it went by public roads. I wonder if its roadworthy now? Probably "yes" judging by what does the London to Brighton Run. Now that would be worth seeing!

The radiator airtake is remarkably narrow for the Land Speed run. I suppose the Beast was running on alcohol which is so much cooler.
Regards, MikeN.

PS The video may show as only a black line with white text "Record di velocita a Ostend (Fiat S76-300PH . . . ." Click on that and it'll take you to the youtube video.

Great looking beast, and nice to see it running and being used rather than sat in a museum all the time.
