Morris Minor Owners Club

Hello, I have just bought my first Morris, Kevin, a 2 door 1962 saloon which was 90% restored (just the interior to finish off) by the former owner for his daughter. Luckily for me, she has since decided to get a modern car, so Kevin came home with me and I am now drawing up a list of things that I would like to tinker with The chrome is all original/second hand and although the majority of the external trim looks great, some of the smaller pieces that need a little tlc.

So, to get to my question... could anyone please recommend a good chromers in/near Essex? I have heard of RCJ in Hoddesdon, but that they can be quite pricey? Being a total newbie, I am not sure what that would even be! I am looking, initially, at sending all the door handles, the speedo surround and the rear lights. Which leads me to my second question... approximately what would I be looking at cost-wise?

I have previously used Kings on Canvey Island and Hockley Platers confusingly of Southend. There is usually a minimum charge, but the best thing is to take the small parts down and see the foreman; he might be able to slip them in with another load.

Chrome plating IS expensive.It's a labour intensive job.The parts you mention aren't exactly that expensive to buy new from the usual suppliers.Quality is another thing though.

When you find out the cost you'll probably decide not to proceed . Chrome plating to a good standard is very expensive and new parts/good secondhand parts are likely to be a better option. The rear light bases (it looks as if your car has the later ones fitted) are almost impossible to rechrome successfully anyway due to their manufacture in mazak "monkey metal" which pits badly.

Thank you everyone for coming back to me and for the advice, I will look at replacements too, especially the lights.

Currently working on repairing the petrol tank which leaked all over the driveway yesterday... there is a tiny hole in it that had been painted over enough that it held until now!

You'd best look for a replacement tank.Try a wanted ad on the forum,shouldn't cost much.
