Hello the teeth on my Morris 1000 flywheel are quite bad.While the engine is out ,I may as well replace it.Is the flywheel on a 948cc engine the same as the 1000cc Len

The 948 and 1098 flywheel are different (but the complete setup is interchangeable).
If memory serves me correctly, the 948 flywheel is noticeably smaller than the 1098 flywheel.

You don't need to change the flywheel - just get a new ring gear fitted to it

Does this mean,that the clutch ass.would have to be replaced as well Len

If you change the 948cc flywheel for the 1098cc flywheel you will have to change the pressure plate which bolts to the flywheel and the centre plate which fits between the flywheel and pressure plate.
Also if you fit the 1098cc flywheel/clutch assy to a 948cc engine it is better to use the 1098cc engine back plate otherwise the 1098cc pressure plate may and most likely will foul the inside of the gearbox bell housing.
The 948cc flywheel is the same Outside Diameter (O.D.) as the 1098cc flywheel but the 1098cc flywheel has the larger clutch assy. The 1098cc pressure plate securing bolts are at a different pitch to the 948cc pressure plate securing bolts so only the complete flywheel/clutch assy is changeable. The flywheel securing bolts on the rear of the crankshaft are at the same pitch for both the 948cc and 1098cc flywheel/crankshaft so no problem there.
I would also agree in that it may be easier to fit a new ring gear even if you have to get your local engineering firm to do it.

Thanks for the advice I will wait till I am ready yo change the flywheel and if one isn`t available on Ebay,I iwll fit a new ring .

He asks about 948 V 1000 flywheel..... There is no difference since the '1000' engine if of 948 cc capacity....

But at least he now has the information so he can make an informed choice as regards another flywheel / ring gear whether it be 948cc/1000cc or 1098cc.
There does not seem to be any serviceable 948cc/1000cc flywheels at the usual suppliers at the moment and currently nothing on 'e' bay though there are 1098cc flywheels at around £70 (with poor condition ring gear) and 1098cc clutch assys for sale at the usual suppliers.
And to reiterate - to me the easiest is to replace the 948cc/1000cc ring gear which can be purchased for £25 plus the usual with any additional fitting charge if the fitting has to be farmed out.

Thanks for the info .I think it is best to purchase a new starter ring and fit it.Buying a used flywheel is no cheaper and you are never sure ,of what you are getting

Make sure you fit it to get way round. And consider a new Bendix to go with it.

I bought a used 1098 flywheel off the shelf from Bullmotif a couple of weeks ago it was perfectly ok.

I have still got the 948 flywheel which was working fine I just wanted to use a 1098 clutch as my warmed over 1098 is probably around 60 horses and was getting a bit much for the little clutch.
It has been outside for a couple of weeks and has surface rust but if it's any good to you £15 posted in the UK.

Thanks for the offer,but I need a flywheel for a 1098cc.I think the best way,is to buy a new starter ring .
