New member in Southern California

Post by whitebuffalo »

Just bought my first Minor. Been interested in them for a long time, but been focused with my Mini obsession for a long time, owned 9 so far.
After my 1972 Innocenti Mini was destroyed by an inattentive SUV driver in March I decided to buy something that was special. I have always dreamed of a lowlight or split window Minor, but they don't show up too often. Looking around at the online classifieds I came across a '54 Hillman Husky that I thought would be fun, however the guy was also selling a '67 Minor. After a deal was hashed out , he decided not to sell his Minor. I then looked again to the online classifieds and found my dream car. It is a 1950 New Zealand built CKD car and is all original with no rust.
Going to keep it all original, but will restore it as I go along. I will go a little off original with a Maroon interior from Newton Commercial. I even found another flathead motor and transmission with a 1953 Minor attached to go with it so I am going from 0 Minors to 2 in no time :)

Congratulations on your purchase, a great choice! I also have a 1950 MM. Do you know there is a register for the remaining cars,

Check to see if your car has ever been on the list and contact Mike Perry to update

Welcome, and a lovely looking Low-light, complete with MMOC Grille Badge!
For those that cannot see the full 1st picture, left-click mouse button, hold, and "throw" the pointer to the top right of the image - this should bring up the full picture.
(I've got the High-light '51 version).

My car is on the registry, I just need to update the name of the owner to my name.

Lowlight Series MMs are very rare in the States as they did not comply with the Californian lighting regs and highlight wings were fitted from 1949. Any lowlights are likely to be personal imports.
Please PM me with the info on both cars and your contact details
Thanks

Hello Whitebuffalo,
I've just noticed that your car's chrome hub caps have an "M" motiff. For UK "home market" I believe that the caps were "plain" - just a smooth dome (like 3 of the hub caps I have on my Series MM).
Can anyone say what CKD or Export cars sported in the way of hub caps?[frame]Image[/frame]
The left-hand one is the plain cap (I have 3 of these), the right-hand one is off a Morris 8, I believe.

A tin of Brasso and some wire wool plus a lot of rubbing will get rid of the rust stains and make those hub caps presentable
