FRONT SHOCKS

Post by lencot76 »

I have removed the engine and g/box and I want to spray the engine bay.How much of a job is it to remove the shock absorbers,I would also like to clean and spray them .Life isn`t easy when restoring .I used to restore Rover P5Bs ,but followong heart ops I have had to step down in size,so Morris`s are new to me.

Have you got one of these? If not maybe consider purchasing one?

Easy enough to take them off. While they are off drain the old oil out and re-fill with SAE 40, makes a BIG difference in damping :D
There's a free PDF down load workshop manual if you do a Google search

With the engine and gearbox out it might be touch and go if you can jack it up against the action of the torsion bars to raise the damper arms off the bump stop?

I hadn`t thought about the lack of weight, with the engine out.I think it will be a case of cleaning and painting them in situ,if I am very careful. This is the advantage of a car club, where there is always someone ,who can advise .Thanks Len

If you're going to spray the engine bay, you ought to remove the shock absorbers really, apart from making a better job of spraying, removing is probably as quick as masking everything off. You can also get all the way round to paint the shocks.

The problem is,with the engine out I don`t think I can remove the shocks, due to the torsion bars
