Hi all.

And today's morris minor related quiz.

I have developed a squeak, well the car has, I think it's the bearings in the generator as I may have been a bit keen tightening the belt.
anyway I've got a couple of spare ones knocking about, I stripped the best of the bunch, cleaned and oiled it, but it feels a bit stiff, it turns easy enough but it won't spin by hand, is this normal? or have I buggered something up?

Cheers,

Paul.

It should spin quite easily...if you pull the brushes off the commutator - does it spin easily then ?

If you have taken the rotor out maybe when it's gone back together it's not seated fully in the bearings? As long as it's not catching anything I find a light couple of taps with a rubber or wooden hammer on the rotor/armature when assembled helps rotor/bearing assys to settle.

Thanks for the replies,
I put it on and started the car....oh dear, I'll have to whip it off again in the morning as the fan is catching on the adjuster, I have another to replace it with that has the edges cut out I guess for this reason.

Turns out that was a dud as well so I've just bought a dynamator which certainly looks the part, will let you know the results when I finish fitting it
