Hi there! Major help needed!

This first happened about 500 miles ago, or about 3 weeks... Whilst driving along the motorway, the car cut in and out, in and out repetitively in quick succession, fast enough for the ignition light not even to come on. Recently the issue has got increasingly worse and it's now almost impossible to drive anywhere without kangarooing down the road. The fuel pump seems to be working perfectly, clicks when the ignition is turned on until the bowl is full, and clicks faster under load and less when not under load. Therefore I have effectively ruled out the fuel side. I thought perhaps my lead from the coil to the distributor was giving up, so replaced it, and still the same issue. I replaced all the leads at the same time for good measure.

Does anyone have any ideas? Florence is our only car at present and we do about 600 miles a month in her. We're very reliant! She's been good as gold for a long time, but this is worrying me.

If it's not fuel = then it must be Ignition.... Points/condenser/'low volts wire' - rotor arm and perhaps dizzy cap... All could cause this. This is where a complete spare working dizzy is a great benefit. As you need the car to be reliable - maybe you should just invest in a complete new electronic dizzy from Accuspark or Powerspark.....the 45D is the best option.

Does it ever cut out at tick-over? If not it could still be fuel. Remove the fuel pipe at the carb, put it in a bottle and turn on the ignition. It should deliver a pint in 30 secs if my memory serves me well.

Hi, it does also cut out at tickover. So Im convinced its electrical. Ill replace the parts of the distributor one by one tomorrow to see if anything solves it, and report back!

Trouble is - you are probably replacing good old parts with poorly made new parts.....which may not last 10 minutes.. Just buy that new dizzy!

Hi all! It was just the bloomin condenser! Unfortunately I don't have £60 to my name to by a new distributor. The condenser i put on was salvaged from my last morris so fingers crossed its new old stock

Came with the car when I bought it, so no idea really. It looked new if im honest!
