Gearbox problem

Hi All, took my convertible out yesterday and had a problem with the gearbox ( 1098 ) intermittently jamming in second gear. Any ideas?

Well I guess on the face of it - it's going to need an overhaul - you could check the oil level - but I doubt it will do much good. Does the lever seem 'loose' - maybe worth checking the nylon cup etc under the lever - and if the lever securing bolts are tight.

That's a strange one, can't really think why it would jam in 2nd, 1st is entirely possible.
Does the lever feel loose or sloppy, what's it like selecting 1st as that's using the same rod and fork. The side of the fork that would pull 2nd out is the side that puts it in 1st. The selector fork may be loose but then I would expect trouble with 1st and 2nd. The other possible issue is with the interlocks but really unlikely. As per the previous post it does have oil in it I presume.
There's really not a huge amount you can do with the box in the car, other than a problem with the actual lever it really needs to come out to see what's happening, otherwise its all if and may be.
