Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi, I just wanted to say hello.

I'm new to Morris Minor ownership. My Almond Green 1966 traveller is currently undergoing full restoration, new ash frame and engine reconditioned, etc, etc...to get her back on the road and saved from the ravages of time. I've always wanted one of these little characters since childhood. As a child, my next door neighbour had a Grey Taupe traveller from new in 'the 60s, from the moment I saw it the die was cast as 4 year old!! He still had the car up until he passed away I believe. So just 35 years later I take delivery....The work will be completed by end of August (hopefully). I'll put up some pictures later on. I'm sure I'll have a few questions as I get to know the character of the car. I intend to use the car as it was intended as a little run about around Oxford. Here's to happy motoring...

Excellent. I hope you get great pleasure from the car once finished. A Morris Traveller is a good car around town, being small by modern standards and surprisingly nippy due to fairly low gearing. They have excellent visibility and a good turning circle which also makes parking a doddle. People in Oxford (where these cars were built of course) love to see one running about and you'll regularly be delayed by somebody telling you all about their own Morris Minor stories, just like my wife was yesterday when she took ours to Oxford

Thanks for the responses. Some lovely looking cars in the pictures. As you mentioned, I can't wait to get going...its like waiting for a baby to arrive!

Waiting to be renovated....

My traveller was restored by Wares several years ago and they did a great job. It's never been a spot of bother and I always felt sure that if there had been any issues Andy and Tim would have sorted them without any drama.I've had them restore 2 other cars since then and have been equally pleased with both. Enjoy the car.

Hope you have deep pockets.......have you read the various reports from the past ?

Thanks, they seem to be a great team and really skilled. I've seen some wonderful examples from them. Just can't wait until its all done....

Thanks, as we live in Oxford I'm sure this will make the journey all the more interesting...can't wait...

Well,of course they're not cheap...it's a business after all,but one that understands the value of reputation and the importance of doing a proper job. The way I look at it is that I paid the price of a cheap new car for a minor that was better than when it came out of the factory. Low insurance,no road tax,totally reliable,very little ( if any) depreciation. If I'd bought a new car then it would be worth diddly squat now...the traveller hasn't lost a bean. I'll keep it as long as I can drive and enjoy the 'minor 'maintenance that I can still do. We have all had different experiences,of course,but I really couldn't fault Charles Wares.

Welcome from me and Boris Minor. I only got Boris about a month or so ago and appeared on here. They're a friendly lot !!! very knowledgeable and helpful.
Nice to hear another woody is on it's way to recovery too, couldn't afford one myself so got a 2 door saloon that needed a new home quickly.
Any upgrades for the traveller planned?

Hi, we did quite a few upgrades...brake servo and disc brakes to the front...radio (hidden away in the glove box) new carpets and seats, alternator, immobiliser, halogen headlights, fog light, inertia seat belts, heated rear window...It will be a car that gets used most days when we are back in the UK as a run about around Oxford/Cotswolds. I know the original brakes can do the job, but thought is was a sensible upgrade. The car will be pretty much a rebuild, chassy, engine bay, wiring loom etc. Its been an ambition to do this for a long time.

Welcome from Bertie and me. I find the 'modern' only goes out on motorway journeys now as the Traveller is much more practical (and fun!).
