Today, while happily wording om my new engine, i wanted to start with the mainbearing shells.
So opened the box and -as a good habit, inspected to see what i ve got....
Well, not what i expected! om three of the six shells, you van clearly see "bubbles" likes paint is bubbling....
Also, i remarked that 3 shells are with the oil 'canal' and (the upper) but the lower (with bubbles) just plain....
Called my supplier and sended him the pics, hè was very understanding but never heard of it before....
Any thoughts ?
Regard,
Dutch minor,
Daniel

By the way, my very fine working 'no-budget' piston ring compressor.....works like à dream....à cut down sewer-pipe.
No hammering needed, just à gentle push with your thumb on the piston and in it slides.....but no blocked with shells....

I've seen that somewhere before, can't think where though! I bought some shells quite a while ago had a quick look and put them in store, now wondering if they were similar. Can't think I would have left it at that though as I wouldn't have been happy. Must find them and have another look.------don't suppose it's a protective film?
I think some of the Metros had a solid bottom shell.

The shells are fine - yes be sure to put the plain shells in the caps - NOT in the block! The plain shells are an improvement! Don't worry about the tiny 'bubbles'.... I do like your ring compressor - excellent!

No, no protective film, its clearly like à sort of blister, from burning your skin...
No doubt of using them...wit à ruler you can see that they are high spots....wich Will surely damage the crank....
I wonder if you Will find yours....
Are you sure bmc ?? With à ruler you see clearly high spots

Have you cleaned off the protective film ? They are always coated with a film.. Use petrol - or 'carb and choke' cleaner. But if you really think there are 'high spots' then by all means send them back to the supplier. What make are they ??
