Crank pulley nut

Hi I have just changed my timing chain and have just finished putting it back together and i wondered how do i torque the crank pulley nut up as when i removed it i used a stilton wrench. Is it ok to nip it up as far as possible with the stilton wrench and lock the washer over or is there another way ?

It's all you can do (bolt - not nut - indeed should be a 'dog' bolt) - the purists ( ) will decry the use of a stilson but if you wrap the dog with rag first no damage will be done ! Put the car in top gear and handbrake full on. I usually put a spot of Loctite on the thread.

You should be able to tighten it with the starting handle, then torque it up.

I have been using this combination to lock the flywheel and undo the starter dog this afternoon on a 1098cc engine.
If I refit the starter dog I always use a deep socket but more often I replace the original pulley with a damper type and the appropriate bolt.
The flywheel lock is a Sykes Pickavant tool No: 085105 which can be used with or without the gearbox attached and the starter dog spanner is the proper Churchill tool 18G 98.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
