Found this on a site showing cars destined for scrap from the labour scrappage scheme that still have to be crushed.
I believe classic car weekly is calling for historic vehicles to be saved

That link goes back to a post from March 2011. There were similar comments on another forum last week but it also seemed to be referring to pics that were several years old so very unclear if these still exist or not.
In any event it is a crying shame that most of the cars pictured were scrapped. My parents in law scrapped an S reg Peugeot 206 with about 40k on the clock, a car with zero merit in my opinion but it still had a lot of life left in it and would have been an ideal 1st car for someone.

This is the trouble with some peoples urge to get a new car and scrap a perfectly usable car and sometimes a classic. What a shear and utter waste of restorable and in some cases perfectly usable classics. These cars especially the classics should be available for purchase, after all it's more money in tax if restored and used again.

CCW have set up an on-line petition about all this. Seems there are still loads of scrappage cars sitting awaiting the crusher.All totally bonkers unless you are a car manufacturer.

In my book anyone saving an A30/35 or a Morris should be given a medal as big as a dustbin lid.

Although the post above refers to a picture from 2011 if you go to google maps and locate it then change to satellite view you can see there is still hundreds of cars still sitting on the tarmac and the google image is dated this year. Shame we can't see good enough to tell if there are some good classics in amongst them but you never know.

I don't think they're old cars in the aerial picture do you? They all more like new cars to me - manufacturers or dealer's stock perhaps?

The scrappage scheme was years ago now and if cars handed over then have stood out on an airfield ever since I doubt many would be much good now except for a few spare parts of course.

At the time, I saw a very smart looking Minor 1000 at a local breakers which was a "victim" of the scheme. However, I saw it again a few weeks later and once it had been stripped of all its useful parts, the bodyshell was actually a poorly patched, rusty old car underneath the shiny paint and not such a great loss. All parts removed from it went on to help run other Morris Minors, so probably not worth getting SO worked up about?

I'm not saying that the scheme was a good thing but many old car owners were delighted to get £2000 for their "old bangers" at the time. Old cars are not always easy for people to sell in reality.

can they be exported? who owns them?
