I wonder if anyone has tried 155/70 R14 on standard minor rims (I have searched the forum but cant find reference to that size)?

I have fitted bridgestone blizzak 145/80 r14's to my traveller and they are ok but these others are such a good price (continental brand) that I might try a set on my saloon.

Has anyone any experience or thoughts of using this size?

Can't forsee any problems using that size tyre.

155 ( = 6.1") is TOO WIDE for a 3" rim !! And the 70 section will reduce the rolling radius - gearing the car down even more than it already is, and leaving large amount of open area showing in the wheel arches........

I have, I actually preferred them to 155/80's.
Continental 155/70's fitted. Had no problems with the inner arch being on show at all, in fact the 145/14's fitted to my girlfriend's Minor are far worse for showing the inner arch. If that sort of thing bothers you, of course.

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. She went straight through the MOT today with the wheels and tyres from the traveller so I must make a decision this week as I cant do without Toby on the road!

I will sort my rims out at the weekend and take it from there.

Continental 155/70 14's. Nice snug fit, not wallowy as some 155/80's can look.
In my opinion they don't show the wheel arch, much less than the 145's on my girlfriend's Minor do.
I'd go back to them if I didn't have van rims on the Trav.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

Just an aside, with reference to 70 section or any section of a tyre. The section is a PERCENTAGE (%) of the width and not a linear measurement.
So 145/80 tyre's sidewall height is 80 percent of 145mm so if you increase the width to say 155 then to keep the same rolling diameter and thus the circumference of a wheel assembly you will need to REDUCE the profile (% of width) to say 70.

As discussed in another thread here, the previous owner of our Moggie fitted 175/70 R14's to the cars van wheels, which I am looking to change now. Out of interest, is the rolling diameter of the wheels wrong effecting the gearing or would it still be about right?

My current spare wheel has a very old tyre on it which I plan to also change. It is also a steel rim measuring 4.5 inches wide, so assuming it is a van wheel also. This has a Michelin 155 SR14 80 tubed tyre on it I think. The closest replacement I can find is a Nankang tyre! Never heard of them, but here's a link. Would these be the right tyres to fit all round, any ideas?

Cool thanks. I can't see any difference between the tyres at £27.90 and the tyres at £32.52! Am I missing something?

Second, are tubes required with these tyres and my steel van wheels? Someone once told me years ago that you shouldn't put tubes inside tubless tyres. Maybe these tyres are not a tubless variety.

They will be tubeless - I don't think anyone makes tubed tyres these days.

So do Moggie owners put tubes in these days or not?

No! Tubes don't last well against the ribbed tubeless liner of the tubeless tyre.

Good spot. Their fully fitted price of £39.30 probably can't be beaten either. I've bought Toyo's from camskill before as they were cheaper than a certain MM exclusive importer ( ) but stock comes and goes. Think I'll stick with the Nangkangs from now on.

If they are WINTER TYRES are for use in COLD weather below 7Deg C in warm weather they are so soft they wear away very quickly. (but stick to the ground like sh1t to a blanket) You will find the granite stones that are tn tarmac will soon cut and tear pieces out of the tread speeding up the wear even more. Keep them for winter thats why they are cheap

I suppose it depends on the use - if an 'everyday' car I agree. If a week-end cruiser, I think they will be fine. We're not talking of racing round Bahrain here! I would much rather have the well-know brand rather than Nanchings ????
