just after a bit of advice iam going to look at a convertible with the following issues.
I was after a bit of advice as to how involved it would be to get it to mot standard by myself doing it or a garage doing the welding.
I ve copied and pasted there info on the car the mechnical issues are not a problem for me , I ve got a welder but have not got the time to do the welding

There is a list which the garage have done on the failure certificate which I will list for you but our mechanic says that it sounds a lot worse than it its.

Drivers seat insecure
Rear (floor where rear of seat rests) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded
nearside and offside rear suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded
nearside rear(floor)seat belt anchorage prescribed area is inadequately repaired.
nearside (step sill insecure) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded
nearside front(inner wing) suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded
offside headlamp not working on dipped beam
front (near exhaust manifold) fuel pipe insecure
front (under bonnet) electrical wiring insecure
nearside front (chassis rail) suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded
offside (centre jacking point and rear floor) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded
offside front (to rear) brake pipe corroded
rear (both sides) shock absorber has fluid lead
Speedo doesn't work

I suspect it is a LOT WORSE than it sounds... Walk away!! There is months of welding ahead. As the car stands I would value it at not much more than £200 - and that's to use it as a 'spare parts car'.......

That does look like a lot of welding! Bear in mind that welding is very labour intensive to do nicely and it will be very expensive to pay someone to do. It is probably more suitable for someone who has time and enthusiasm for a long term diy project.

All depends on the price of course.If its dead cheap(and a genuine convertible not a conversion) and you make the time to do the welding yourself(and lets face it unless youre a cr*p welder youre gonna put a lot more care into the job than the bloke doing it for money),then its probably a good project.

I am going to have a look 2 morrow , if it's bad I will walk.
The guy paid 3200 for it and has spend money on it.
I would suspect water has corroded the floor pan, it's not to far from me.

That's a CRAZY price for a wreck... It's going to need complete floor pans and all the sill parts - probably a crossmember, and the chassis legs are gone too. And inner wings/front suspension locations.... When I look at the fail list above, I was wrong - it's years of welding, not months.... All the more complicated with it being a convertible.....to keep it straight and true.

HOW MUCH,god don,t even look at it,good for spares at 200,its a money pit.If you've got that sort of money to risk Ill sell you my ser 11 4 door with full mot,for 1800 just about to put all the details on here,got the chance to buy a traveler so need to move it on

Well OP said the owner paid £3200 for it but not how much he now wants for it.He may have paid that 20 years ago and left it outside since then.

I ve agreed to buy it with an mot with all the welding done, guy seems genuine enough had a few cars between himself and the wife.
It has not been used much as its low mileage .
Once it's ready I will post pics.
The corrosion was not as bad as listed the floor pan in the inside was solid , underneath had suffered .
It has a new hood brakes and oils .
The seats are like new and no smoke from the engine.
He took it to a normal garage rather than his usual guy as he was on hols

"All the welding done" - to what standard ?? It wouldn't be me... There are plenty of Convertibles out there.. Can I suggest before parting with any money you check the door fits - then check again with two heavy people sitting in the front seats......
