Rear axle

Hi I have just got my traveller running and I am just finishing off the brakes after renewing all cylinders and pipe work. I jacked the car up today with the engine running and noticed that only one rear wheel turns properly. Does anyone know what's up with my chugga wagon? Thanks

I should imagine its just the diff doing its thing, if you hold the wheel that turns, the other one should revolve.

Hi, the rear axle differential (diff) will pass motion power to the side with least resistance (used for cornering).
It could be that the brakes are binding more on one side than t'other.
If you are running the transmission with the rear axle off the ground, leave it ticking over in 1st gear and then grab (with gloves on) the wheel that seems to be moving better - observe what happens on the other side.
Regards, George.
P.S. Just noticed that "les" has posted something similar.

Ok thanks for the quick replies guys! I have realised that it's the diff hahaa so if I grab one
side (the drivers side) whilst running in gear I can stop it whilst the other I can't, is this right??

Whichever side you stop, the other should turn instead. Don't try to stop both at the same time!

Just imagine the scene:- 8)
A beautiful model and a Jag E type doing a photo shoot. :D :D
Photographer wants some action shots with the rear wheels turning.
Photographer gets a jack - lifts one Jag rear wheel off the ground and instructs model to drive said Jag.
Model does as instructed - model and Jag half disappear through wall of studio.
Photographer did not realise the Jag had a limited slip diff - so lifting one wheel off the ground did not stop the drive train and the Jag moving.
True story.
