interior hood cleaner

I've just had a new hood fitted to my converted saloon - the last one had become unfit for purpose - and charles ware did a great job on it. I would like to keep the interior as clean and new as possible, and can any of the members recommend how best to do this? With some kind of fabric cleaner perhaps?

It depends on what type of hood you've had fitted -vinyl or mohair. Vinyl hoods are a bit more forgiving and can be cleaned with soap/washing up liquid and water - perhaps even a bit of something like Mr Muscle/Ciff to remove a mark. I have a mohair one and just wipe this with soap and water. I find this works well.

ok thanks, i kinda hoped soap and water might be enough, although on my previous hood it occasionally got smeared with harder to shift marks, so perhaps a squirt of Ciff might do the job. How about sugar soap?
It's a vinyl hood by the way.

Try Autoglym caravan and motorhome cleaner, I use it on all sorts and it's brilliant on vinyl - best thing I found for cleaning your wheels too :)

is it a spray on and wipe off operation? with a damp cloth or something similar?
and when you say it's good for cleaning wheels as well i had been thinking of painting my cream wheel trim in black, to match the paintwork, as the cream gets quickly discoloured even after re-painting. but if the autoglym can shine them up, might try that instead.

Yep it's a trigger action spray, a strong detergent solution. The smell is very like Vax carpet cleaner, if you've ever used it, and the same as Foresters Fantastic degreaser/cleaner for those who have come across it in industry :) It shifts brake dust off the wheels brilliantly - unsurprisingly it cleans caravans too.

arrgh.....new problem after having the convertible sweating under a tarpaulin for most of the winter. The interior is now covered with black spot mould/mildew, and i'm struggling to get it off. I've sprayed it with Milton to try and kill off the spores, and tried applying the Autoglyn caravan and motorhome restorer with only a marginal improvement. Same with Astonish mould and mildew spray - the sort you use on showers and baths.
I have a nasty feeling this mould is now permanently ingrained, but if anyone has any tips, i'd give it a try.

mildew problem solved. or just about. used dettol mildew and fungus spray, about four quid from morrisons, smoothed over with damp sponge for an even spread. it lightened the interior a bit, but all the nasty black stuff has gone, and the hood interior looks clean and bright again.

Thanks for that. Got same problem with mine that's been out of use for the last year... I'll give it a go :)

hope it works for you also. repeat, spread with a damp cloth after spraying a small area, otherwise it will end up looking blotchy. its odd, but other bleaches didn't seem to work at all when i tried them, only dettol.
