Morris Minor Owners Club

My chassis number plate (the oval one) is intact but presumably due to paint removal in the past has none of the printed information, just bare aluminium with the stamped letters MAW5D 128****F. This is a late Adderley Park Traveller. Which pattern oval plate should I obtain to replace it with - is it the Morris Motors, or the British Leyland/Austin Morris version as fitted to Minis?

And would anyone with an appropriate set of letter punches and skills like to take the job on for an appropriate fee?

I would keep the original chassis plate regardless of condition as long as the number is readable. A new shiny plate would look out of place and would raise questions as to why it had been replaced

Quite right,my A30 had lost it's plate and the MOT man said it must have a new one for the next years inspection. Well I got one done & fitted it. The next MOT was a nightmare! The ( different) inspectors obviously suspected the car was dodgy with it's new shiny plate. No amount of history documents or the Heritage certificate would sway him so I took it elsewhere. Some years ago but I'm still kind of expecting plod to knock on the door.

I fully understand both these answers, and in many ways wish I had a nice original car with its patina intact. What I've got on my hands, though, is a total restoration which will be as new externally and internally, including the engine compartment. The bare metal plate would look, in my opinion, totally out of place. And I will keep the original safely with the car documents to answer any awkward questions.

So I would still welcome advice on whether a 71 Traveller would have had a British Leyland plate or a good old Morris Motors.

Just keep the old plate in the glovebox - in case anyone questions the new one.

Unlike Cowley builds, AddPk typefaces are larger and look to be stamped by a drunk - anyone post a pic showing where the black paint is please?
