afternoon all! i've been getting judder at the wheel for some time now and it isn't particularly just under braking, i had read in the workshop manual there are some bushes and a mod to be done to eliminate this although would it be better to just go for a new rack?

I wouldn't jump to conclusions straight away and rush out to buy a new rack.

I suggest, in the first instance that you have a good look at the front suspension set up. Particularly the bushes on the upper
trunnions , bushes on the lower/inner arms , bushes on the tie rods.Any signs of cracks / deterioration in the rubber would suggest replacement is due.
It needs a keen eye to look for any loose bolts/ nuts and "wear " in any of the components. It''s a case of front wheels off,
vehicle securely chocked and placed on axles stands, before you start pushing/ pulling /levering to see "what moves "
that shouldn't !
Once you have given the suspension a clean bill of health, then have a closer look at the steering rack.I've made an assumption that you've not recently fitted new tyres to the front of the vehicle ( which haven't been balanced ) or lost any balancing weights off of the front wheels ( you can probably see marks on the rims, where they "used to be " ).

As above - most likely to be wheel balance and least likely to be the steering rack!
