If I was to replace my current sealed beam headlamps with halogen type lamps, would I have to carry out an altenator conversion or would my dynamo still be sufficient?

I use halogens with a dynamo, however I don't do much night driving.
It might be a bit marginal depending what other things you have fitted and use.

Halogen lights are the same wattage as sealed beam so you do not need an alternator

Actually - halogen lights (with the legal 55 watt lamps) use slightly LESS power than the old sealed beams...your dynamo will be fine.

My Grey car has got halogen lights - didn't notice this until after I drove it home on the day of purchase (bit flatter looking lenses).
The car runs on Dynamo (and 803cc engine) and seems to cope very well with these lights and the "Sat Nav" power socket outlet I fitted for auxillary items (like the Dash Cam I drove to Brooklands with).

At least one Morris Minor specialist says that you should fit an alternator if you fit halogen lights, no doubt in order to sell you one. Heated windows, in-car stereo etc might warrant the fitting of an alternator but I for one will stick to the dynamo.

My H4 Halogen bulbs are all marked 60/55W. H1 single filament are 55W
