Getting ready for this year's travels with mog and pod. Remembered last year the indicators were very slow and didn't like flashing much. In fact I think I used to make them flash by moving the stick.

You need a trailer relay for the additional lights.... Or perhaps if you had LED bulbs in the trailer - the existing flasher unit would cope ok.

Add up the total wattage of the indicator bulbs on one side and that should be the wattage of the flasher unit required for towing, normally 42W for the car + 21W for a small trailer. A trailer relay will have additional wiring for a towing warning light. If you have a blocked oil filter warning light, they are no use anyway, you can disconnect the wire from the oil filter terminal and connect it to the terminal on the flasher unit. When the trailer indicators are in use the orange light in the speedo will flash.

I like the idea of the oil light flasher. Do I replace my flasher unit for a trailer one or have 2.

It's a special trailer relay - LED bulbs will be far the easiest to do! Plenty of the relays on ebay...

Think the bulbs on the pod are the same as van. Have you a link for these led bulbs.

Ordered two bulbs, will let you know how I get on.

The standard indicator relay (the can on the bulkhead) is electromechanical and sensitive to load. You can get a modern electronic one that is a direct replacement and works with any load from around 2 - 120 watts. If the LED solution doe snot work then come back and I'll find you a link for the flasher unit - it has the same three terminals, so there is no additional wiring, a direct replacement.

Seven years so far - and no itch

Bulbs came today, tried them in front indicator and didn't work nothing. Back one didn't flash either.

The suggestion is to fit them on the TRAILER !!! The flasher needs the normal 2 X 21 watt load to work - but should also manage the slight extra load of an LED on the trailer when it is plugged in....

What i am saying is the bulbs don't light up.

They won't on the car flasher circuit.... Your car is negative earth I hope......

So they were never going to work. Need a flasher unit then

They work fine on negative earth - which is the norm for 99% of cars these days... If your car is negative earth - they WILL work on the trailer - which is the whole point of this thread. If your car is positive earth - then beware which trailer relay you get - since some may be polarity sensitive too...

Hi mate the bulbs don't work because I have been told the van is negative earth. Have you a link for a relay that would work on a neg earth van.

Negative earth is fine then - they WILL work - on the trailer. Try it!
