V5 Help!!

Hi I have recently purchased an Almond Green (i think) 1969 minor traveller. The car was a project started by someone but they got bored.

I have been spending, spraying & welding like mad over the last few weeks to get my project underway.

My problem is that the previous owner has lost the registration (V5) document! I have two registration plates with the car, 1no. 'E' reg the other a 'G' reg. I am fairly confident that the car has bits of both donor cars fitted.

I cannot find a VIN number only a Body number (on the top passenger side bulkhead) and an engine number.

I don't really want the car to have a Q plate.

Could anyone help with Identifying the car, would the VIN number be stamped anywhere other than the place it is supposed to be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
Simon

PS: Is there anyone local to West Bromwich who has a traveller they wouldnt mind me looking at I could really do with seeing some parts in real life. All of the manuals I have are starting to look very similar and sometimes do not show some of the finer points of the car!

I have just been out to look for more numbers. The engine number is 10MA-U-H-325728 but the body number is not clear as it seems to have been painted many times!

Have a look on the bulkhead around the area where the bonnet pull goes through (near fusebox area). The chassis number is often stamped there on later cars.

on the floor where the drivers feet go, the front footwell, its stamped under the floor paint, towards the door.
not sure about early models or weather all were stamped, but its there on many minors, you just got to find it under the thick paint. thats if the original metal is still there.
if you look in from outside, it in an easy readable position

Are you sure it's a 69? The reason I ask is that there is something funny about "E" reg cars there are substancially fewer of them than any other registration.

If I remember correctly "D" covers Jan-December 1966 "E" Jan-July 1967 "F" August 1967-July 1968 "G" August 1968- July 1969.

So if the body is 1969 then it has to be the "G" plate. My advice from dealing with the DVLA is that if you write them a nice letter explaining th situation, perhaps not telling the WHOLE story, they may not be interested in the second numberplate as that would only confuse matters.

Just write and say you have bought the car and that is the number you were given and that the body number appears to be "XXXX" and send a photograph of the bulkhead plate to them. With any luck they should tell you what the body number should be.
