Presumably it's a good idea to change the Inline Fuel Filter if it's looking particularly dirty?

Don't know when mine was last replaced and it looks like a very cheap job!

If you mean the filter in the base of the pump, these can be cleaned and reused quite easily. If you are referring to an inline filter, these are best left off altogether.

Yep get rid of it, they can act as a heat sink and cause fuel vaporisation problems. If anything gets passed the filter on the pump it will settle out in the float chamber.

My setup is as standard, just a length of black fuel hose from pump to carburettor. Gives no problems at all.
SU pumps are very simple on operation, and as such the only real risk that any debris can cause is to the float valve assembly, which is easily solved. The system already has two filters, one in the tank, and one in the pump. Adding a third will lea to symptoms as Panky describes.
If it worries you, I wonder if you'd be better investing in a ball type float valve, which is less prone to effect from debris. But I've never seen the need.

You could always take a trip to your local motor spares shop and buy some fuel pipe, if you a unsure of the size take your old one with you for reference. It will be cheaper too.

Nice article that actually explains the logic that a filter between tank and pump is a bad idea. Better, if anywhere, between pump and carb...

No - you don't need ANY filter. It's just an obstruction and a nuisance. The SU carb copes very well with any particles that get through - not like other carbs with tiny jets that are easily obstructed.
