jumping out of 3rd
hi everyone
just had my 948cc smooth case gearbox reconditioned with 1098cc internals, it seems to jump out of 3rd unless held into gear. i was wondering if theirs any difference in gear sticks as it has the short straight type gear lever, thought id ask first before i go all guns blazing and start taking things apart first.
thanks
andy

Re: jumping out of 3rd
I didn't know it was possible to put 1098 in a 948 box. It's hard to say which lever should be used - if the 1098 selector rods were used, then I guess the 1098 lever should be used.

Re: jumping out of 3rd
they machined the case inside to make it all fit. it goes into gear so much more positive now than it ever did, it doesnt crunch into 3rd, just pops out. only way to see is to buy a later gear lever and see if that works. i did have an issue with the anti rattle brass plunger as i had to file and cut the spring down otherwise it was to tight against the lever and it wouldnt move

Re: jumping out of 3rd
I fancy the problem is internal to the box. Don't 'hold it in' you are only wearing the selector fork away........

Re: jumping out of 3rd
yeah very true that, their is a bit more of a wine in 3rd compared to normal, thinking it might be coming back out again!
would it wine a bit if the gear wasnt fully selected?

Re: jumping out of 3rd
Not really. It's either in or out - the indent balls/springs should hold it in place.

the car is going back to them. so they will remove gearbox ect.. and resolve the problem, ive already put it together once so its down to them to cover the labour ect, which their more than happy to do
