Hi, someone asked this question on the Honest John website for a cover for a damp garage, and he answered cotton or cotton fleece. Do any members use these covers? More importantly, where can I obtain one?

You would be better off storing the car outside under a Stormforce cover than in a manky damp garage!

They are very bad for your car.
I've got a very posh 4 layer one that came with my minor that I use to keep dust off garden furniture in the shed. I believe it was hundreds of pounds but I'd burn it before putting it on a classic car in a garage, especially a damp garage

Buy a dehumidifier far better than a cover as it will probably make the car micro blister

I keep my minor in a unheated concrete garage, I put 2,100mm vents in each end of the garage above the door and window. Also I put vent holes in the bottom of the side door with a mesh covering the inside to stop any unwanted visitors.
I have a 14" old desk fan that is set to come on for 15mins every 3 hours on a timer to keep the air moving in the garage.
The car is covered with a breathable cover. It works for me and the car still looks a good as when I put the cover on last year when I washed it and put it away and up on axle stands.
For me in a concrete garage it's all about having an airflow, the cover just keeps the rubbish off the car that is blown in through the eves.

Thanks for all the replies. The problem with the garage is water gets in ONLY during very heavy rain, forming puddles on the floor. I shall be concreting the (invisible) gaps this weekend which certainly helped at the far side of the garage and hopefully the damp can be kept to a minimum. As for ventilation, I keep the side door and front up and over door open whenever I can. I shall go down the fixed vent route in due course. Thank-you again.

Good decision I think. If you want to keep dust off the car those big cotton decorators dust sheets are great and cheap from Toolstation or Screwfix.

Carcoon - pumps damp air in over the car ??? If the cotton cover gets damp - it's just holding the car in a permanent wet environment,,,,

Aren't we talking about a dust sheet in a ventilated garage rather than a cartoon? I don't think anyone would leave a damp cotton sheet over a car...

You mean that rusty car with the mould and mildew? Ventilation is the crucial bit! There are a lot of people who say that a carport is better than a garage, particularly for long- term storage. Unfortunately insurers tend not to agree.

Well that's that settled then! No cover, just keep the garage well ventilated and I will do my utmost to keep the water out. As I previously stated, I can keep the doors open whilst the house is occupied and can increase the airflow with additional fixed vents.
