Random question about windscreen washer and MOT...

Hi all,

Just browsing the site taking mental notes etc, and remembered that my MOT is in May (its my first one with Monty) so I've started making notes about things i know will need fixing before then (non existent cross member ends, that kind of thing :( ).

I know i need to fix the horn as I read a post about someone failing their MOT because theirs didn't work, but does a car need to have a working windscreen wash system i.e. Water bottle etc??

I removed mine a while ago to get at some stuff in the engine bay, and had no plans to reinstall it really since I only use Monty for shortish runs and never ( :D ) in the wet......so I never really need to 'wash' the windscreen.

Any thoughts?

Ta

Yes, you must have working washers. I can't think of any reason to not fit them.

The only exemption is if you have an opening windscreen!! Ive heard of guys with pre war cars using a squeezy bottle to wet the window for MOT :D

As above - yes - and it must deliver water to the screen - not just a wee (!) dribble on the panel....

And it can fail on worn wiper blade rubbers
What year is an MOT compulsory?

Ah, you learn something new everyday :D , thanks for all your replies, I'll add that to the MOT list. Good to know that it needs to be more than a dribble, and about the quality of the blades too.

My weekends between now and the MOT are going to quickly fill up with tasks!

A couple of MOTs back - my Tester passed the car ok, but made the comment that the wipers are actually supposed to clean the windscreen...... So having 'good' blades and water squirt is not actually enough.... They are supposed to clear water off the screen... I fix that now by using RainX on the screen - before the MOT....
