I have a black 1957 saloon with the standard old English white / cream (whatever colour it is) grille. but I have seen other "standard" minors with a black grille. Was this an option? I was thinking of painting mine black.
What are your thoughts?

I'd do what you like the look of. If you change your mind it's not a big job to repaint it.

Your right, I'll go and do it.
I remember once years and years ago I sprayed my wheels black on my first minor, I drove to college and when I got there they was the original colour! The rain washed the paint off! I think there was far too much thinners in the paint!

For the record it's already non-original. Black cars were the first to get contrasting wheels and grille. 57 to early 59 that color was Birch Grey.

If you've got a black Minor, one of the easiest ways to make it look older is to paint the wheels and grill black. Obviously I would rather have a car looking how I want than original (although the previous keeper did mine saving me a job). I'm also tempted to do the outer ring of my wheels in a maroon / dark red to match the interior. Que the purists with their lectures.
