Series II replacement engine

I have what i am convinced is a series II 1953 that has had a sidevalve retro fitted to make it appear to be an MM.
I don't think the sidevalve motor is worth investing any more money in, so I am considering transplanting a 1098 complete with gear box into it.
My question is... is this a straight swap ? will the new box mate up with the existing prop shaft. Is there anything else i should know ?

Depends what rear axle is fitted...Would be best to go for a complete set of engine/gearbox/prop shaft/rear axle from a later car...

Hi Alan,
the sidevalve was fitted up to February 1953 and original morris minor states that the last car to be fitted was 179839 so its possible that it always had it fitted. If it was retro fitted the gearbox would also have to have been changed. The same back axle was used on early series 11 as well.
If you are going to fit a 1098 you will need the gearbox and axle as well and in addition I would uprate it to the 8' drum brakes as would have been fitted also. The only bit of the body you should need to adapt is were the gearbox floor cover is, this will have to been cut back a bit to allow the newer type of remote change to be fitted. To get all these bits it would be easiest to buyer a scrapper and transplant everything over.
As the owner of a side valve they do have there limits, but will get you there eventually
