electric points? losing power ++++

Hi, the last outing in my moggy was a long trip down south where it started losing power every now and again and then cutting out completely. it would start again a couple of times and I managed to leap frog it there. on the way back it was popping and banging loosing power again.
all the ignition side was new not so long ago coil, distrib, points, spark plugs, leads. so I thought it was the fuel pump, but its shooting fuel out, so I didn't know if it was the points and if replacing them with electric points is better and would solve it? and if it does do you need a new higher powered coil?
thanks

Try replacing the condenser - preferably with the old one that was in there before everything was changed.

Also check the float chamber to make sure that there's no crud in there blocking the jet.

Ye I did check the float and it was all clean, il try the old condenser see if that makes a difference cheers

would you not recommend changing it to electronic points?

It's up to you if you are competent to maintain points - then carry on. You say a 'new dizzy' - is it brand new? And a new coil is a worry - I would refit the old coil - and yes the old condenser...

Sounds as though the points have closed up. Have you checked the gap again?

I've not had this problem since switching to electronic ignition 3years ago. Now have it on both Minors and the A30.highly recommended,fit and forget!

Thats what i was thinking, when you replaced the points for electrical did you change the coil or is that just a rumor?

ALL points are 'electrical'...... Why on earth would you change the coil ?

It's NEVER the coil !!

The original coils,on all three cars,have been just fine.
