a mig welder will be best for the job.then all depends on how much you want to spend !.the ones with capacitors are more expensive but run smoother,i have been told the oxford 200 has capacitors.i would run it on 0.6mm wire.

Ok -for 200,you wont get "the best welder for the job" !.but you will get a mig.I would just check the classifieds for a local machine and try b4 you buy (or get it demonstrated).

I have a Clarke Mig151EN Turbo gasless MIG which I bought to repair the sills on my MX5 and which I have since used to do lots on my Minor too. Can recommend it 100%. It cost me about £250 from Machine Mart. Whatever welder you get, make sure you get an auto dimming mask too. They cost about £40ish but are absolutely worth it.

Depends on how much you need to do,Machine mart have a large range,The cheapest still work, but overheat and the weld quality breaks down, and you need to stop for a while to let it cool off.Even mid range ones(Without fans) do the same. The cheap ones can still be used but just takes more time. MIg forum is full of info. Good luck.

i use a clarke 190 gas welder, been using it for 12 years with co2 pub gas, mot man is amazed at the quality of my welds and in some cases he is unaware a section has been cut out and replaced. if you have not used a mig before, outside on a breezy day is hopeless as the breeze blows off the shielding gas and a very poor splattery weld will be produced. hope this info helps ,Graham

Thats why I would also always advise buying a dual gas /no gas then you can weld outside in a gale

and also invaluable when you run out of gas midway on sunday, switch wire and finish the job

Take a trip to your local Machine Mart. Many of the staff are very knowledgeable and will guide you to the right one for your purpose. If you are new to welding a second hand one from Ebay/etc which may/may not work properly/not be set up correctly may put you off entirely. Plenty of people on here to offer you advice with welding as well. Good luck.
