Engine Number

The engine number on my traveller starts with 10V/189E/H7. Now I know the 'V' is the designation for van and the 'H' is for high compression but what I would like to know is could this be the original engine as the car is a late Adderley Park traveller built along side the LCV's. The V5C has the current engine number on it but this could obviously have been changed in the past. Your views welcome.

10V/189E-190E used by all models

10V/189E/H if 5 digits - prefixed with a "7" - will be AddPk Traveller.

10V Minor's never reached 6 digits, although the PO varient scraped
to 10300.

Hope this helps.

Spot on, a 7 then another four digits. Looks like the original lump :)
Thank you.

Certainly V is not for 'Van' - it is I believe for Positive Crankcase Ventilation.... Does it have a PCV valve fitted??

I think it should have, it's got the connection on the manifold and the breather on the tappet cover but it's piped direct to the carb - but I have a plan. Also got a rocker cover with a breather connection on my spare engine so that will be going on as well.
There are different codes for cars and commercials I've found and this is what I based my assumptions on.
Morris Minor series 5, close circuit breather 1098cc 10ME
Morris 1000 van closed circuit breather 1098cc 10V

Info from the mg site?

Even list a GPO unit as a 948cc despite an "8" prefix.

10MAUL/MAUH 101- 3xxxxx from 10/63 - -/69 1098cc
10MEUL 101 - ???? (unknown - but in 4 figures) -/65--70 1098cc
(above mainly USA/dregs of the GPO 6000 batch)

10V/189E L/H 101-97xxx/75xxx
10V/190E/ 101-????

10V/451E/L101-102xx PO 10/70 on....

Above info from memory, so not 100%.

36hrs of watching Dick Van Dyke's chirpy cockney accent for you!

I certainly would be in favour of shoving that brush of his elsewhere!
