Hi Folks,
I think Ive asked before about the tele shocks on the moggy van, but at risk of repeating. Do the tele shocks from some of the cars around now fit? I wondered if anyone out there had found a straight swap with a van or car that I can get at a local parts place.
Also thinking of putting teles on the front using one of the kits, any suggestions.

I re-filled the original lever arm dampers on my traveller with SAE50 oil, the difference is amazing, It cost me a grand total of £8 and an afternoons work, try it before you go the tele way - I dont think you'll bother with the results you get

As above - the 'bolt on' tele DAMPER 'kits' are dubious engineering - unless you go for the well engineered but quite expensive 'weld in' kit from the likes of JLH. For your use - go with the SAE 30 or 40 or 50 oil - and make sure the bump stops and rebound stops are in place and in good order. The lever dampers are just folded up tele dampers anyway - with the advantage we can adjust the valving (dubious value) - and increase the damping by using the more viscous oil. Someone will be along with a replacement for the rear tele dampers - it's outside my 'field'.

Sorry, forgot the rears were telescopic on vans

I have a vague recollection that dampers from a model of Volvo (155?) fit the rear.

I hope this might jog someones memory.

Cant believe filling with different oil make a difference, if only everything was that simple, I will try it this week. The van hasnt had bump rubbers for years so theres something else I can do.
I will look into the Volvo shocks and let you know, so far most online moggy spares are about £35.00 each shock plus vat.

You absolutely MUST have bump rubbers all round - and rebound rubbers at the front..... TBH - £35 each doesn't sound too bad for van rear dampers... But hang off - some of the suppliers have 'sales' approaching Christmas - or perhaps early in the New Year.

£35 each sounds a bargain. For that price I'd ballast the car down with a set of spares in the boot in case it snows

But they can be done on the car with a bit of heave-ho.

Oh the fronts are best done ' on the car '. I advise to flush through twice. The result with SAE 40 oil is easily the equal of the 'bolt on' tele damper kits.

The van rear shocks are the same as Volvo 244s. I believe Escort mark 1 estates are the same too.
Fit new oil rubber bushes or Polys in the dampers too.

Cool beans, with the money I'll save on not buying a front shocker kit I can get some other Improvements for the van. More stopping power would be good.

Has anyone tried fitting shockers off the Volvo.?

Once again...I have a vague memory that you have to do something with the bushes to make them fit.
(My vague memory worked last time...perhaps it will work this time )

I'll probably have to go for the stock rear shockers, as once I start messing with the Volvo ones I cant send em back.
Mind you the van is over 50 so thats not bad for british bumpy roads, Ive had the van over 20 years and I cant remember replacing them!

Even with new standard dampers on the rear the difference will be very noticeable compared with the old ones.

Maybe not! Tale them off and test them....maybe nothing wrong!!

They are well on the way! The outer casing is rotting Im surprised any oils in them!
