What to do while the engine's out....

Going to be removing the engine and box from my moggie this weekend, to see to a few small oil leaks that I've been putting off for a while, and to have a general look over them and see what needs doing. While they're out (which they will be for 2-3 months, since she's not on the road over winter anyway..) I'm planning on freshening up the engine bay a little which got me thinking - is there anything else you wise people recommend I inspect/renew/have a look at? Hopefully the engine won't have to be out for a good while after this, so while it's out I'd like to take full advantage!

I'd degrease / clean up as much as you can ,to get a look at everything whilst you have access.
A little list for starters, there will be others along later, from fellow Forumnites : -
State of the rubber Engine mounts
State of the rubber Gearbox mounts
Condition of the earth straps
Condition of the gearbox restraint ( or in my mates case check you still have one !! The previous mechanic ( ? ) cut the cable
with bolt cutters and didn't replace it with a new part ).
Condition of the pedal linkages, brakes and clutch... lubricate after cleaning up,bushes need replacing ?
Clutch operation / condition was it working OK before removal ?
Pipe condition, fuel and brake lines all clipped securely ,nothing other than surface rust on the pipes ?
No leaks at the joints ?
Electrical wiring loom all sound ? Undo and clean earth points for lighting, brake light switch, etc.Protect with grease / Vaseline, whatever on re-assembly.
Top up the dampers ,if required.
Cooling... rubber hoses good, still pliable ?
Starter motor,clean up the Bendix ( don't oil it ).Check out the state of the brushes.
Steering gaitors ..access allows you to have a good look at the rubbers, no splits ? Clean with some meths on a rag.
Distributer ...check that the " O "ring oil seal on the drive shaft is in good condition ..might be a source of your little oil leaks.
Lubricate the spring weights internally whilst you have access, change points if required.
Crank /Timing case seal gone ? Another leak source ?
Tappet cases covers, side of engine another source ?
Sump gasket / rocker cover gasket another source ?
Sump plug washer another source ?
Oil pressure relief washer another source ?
Oil filter seal another source ?
I'm running out of ideas now, my brain's hurting , that should give you something to start with !!
LOOK for the tell tale oil drips on the engine BEFORE cleaning up.NOTE down problem areas, so you can order new parts and devise a plan / order of work to correct the issues.

Wow, that's a pretty thorough list! Some that I had though of, some that I hadn't, thanks! I'm pretty sure the oil leaks are the crankshaft seal, gearbox end seal, all the usual stuff. But I have got a full gasket set for the engine, since I'm going to be tearing it apart anyway, so any possible leaks should be sorted. All other parts will be bought once I've checked everything over, luckily my neighbour knows his way around the A series (he's just finished rebuilding his Midget engine) so I have resources on hand
But yeah, thanks for all that, and if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know!
