i have seen in several pictures that the tax disc is positioned on the left of the windscreen in a holder. the motor industry heritage trust sells a metal holder and replica discs from whatever year you want. the holder mounts with a screw but i have no idea where it screws in or into what it screws. any help appreciated[frame][/frame]

You do not have to display tax discs in the UK anymore.

The Disc holder is really aimed at Vintage cars where usually there is an exterior vertical metal surface, on which to mount
the disc holder.
If you wish to mount it inside the car then drilling the windscreen frame is the answer.With the face against the windscreen itself ,the metal tab will have to be bent... and maybe ,it still won't reach / be in the right position ?? In which case, you will have to make an additional small metal extension to bolt to the holder.

I had a metal disc holder like that on my 69 saloon for a while and it was screwed in the same hole as the sun visor, I found it caught though in the piping on the top of the passenger seat when it was lifted and removed it before it wore a hole or ripped it!

Buy a motorcycle, then you'll have the correct tax disc holder!

There is a chrome suction holder for your period tax disc but I have never got mine to stick to the windsreen for more than two minutes

But as above - it's now redundant... No more discs... It's saving DVLA Millions..... Aye right. I recently cashed in the disc on my TR7 at end of September. Two weeks later a letter arrives confirming receipt of my application for a refund and confirming SORN ... then a week later another letter with the refund cheque ... and then two weeks later a reminder arrives that my tax is about to run out and I will be clapped in jail if I don't put the car on SORN... Oh dear - what a shambles...

I have a "duel" tax-disc holder from a Radio Rentals van - still
has the company operators thing in as well.

The OP probably knows that no tax disc is req, I would suspect he's displaying a replica of the original tax disc that was on his van in the year it was registered. Not having to display a valid disc means this can now be done.

Chnnang who rasied this post is from perth western australia, so may need to display some sort of road tax or just wants to show how it would have been when the car was new.

Should have a wooden "packing" piece separating the metal.

Late stuff had the metal to metal affixed by 1 self-tapper.

Soooo...many areas to cover in the tombe.

Top man,never knew that. Just had a look at UXH,and the wood packing is there. I'll take a pic. Don't suppose your book will be ready for Christmas,so I'll ask for Nick Clegg's memoirs,how many sugars David has etc.

Top tip for the suction tax disc holders, do not moisten, use tyre black, as it doesn't dry out! I use my grandmother's which was in her Morris 8 series E, then her series 2, then her Minor 1000, then her Morris 1100, but it wouldn't stick in her Morris 1300 as the windscreen was too curved, so in 1975 she gave it to me! I will have 1956 tax in it soon

Many people cant read the year of the car from the letter code on the number plate these days, the tax disc will give them a clue about the cars age.

If it is sad having a period tax disc, then it is just as sad to have the matching car! I am sad constantly!
