Horn slip ring & brush sounding rough

Kacey's steering column has been sounding rough lately, although everything has been working as normal. Whenever I turn the wheel it sounds as though it needs lubricating and makes a dry, grindy squeaky noise. I investigated yesterday and narrowed it down to the brush contact on the indicator assembly where it touches the horn slip ring on the column. If I lift the brush away from the slip ring the wheel turns noiselessly. I've tried moving the brush so that it rests on the slip ring at a different angle but to no avail.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or, more to the point, found a solution?

Do I need to:
- clean up the ring with emery
- buy a new brush assembly
- use a conductive grease or
- none of the above

Over to you, forumites...

I had a similar problem on a Triumph Herald only it was the horn push contact. I put the lightest smear of ordinary grease I could on the contact ring and it worked silently and perfectly after that.
