Hi All,
I have had a problem that has occurred twice since I have had my Traveller back on the road. When first starting the car and selecting neutral, I have found that the gearshift has allowed the gearbox to lock in 2nd while also allowing another gear to be selected. In other words, if I let the clutch out in "neutral", the car still drives in 2nd. If I select any other gear, the gearbox locks as 2 gears are simultaneously selected. To rectify the issue, I have have to remover the gearbox cover, the gear shift remote and physically re-align the the selector shafts with a screwdriver. This is the same fault as another post in here:

My question
to you all is does anyone know the cause? I'll probably have to remove the gearbox and investigate but would like to know if anyone has rectified a similar fault. Could it be a detent spring / ball bearing / interlock pin fault?

have a look for wear on the selector rods where they exit the gearbox , my 803cc gear box had a worn rod and it would allow the selector to jump over it leaving it in one gear while i could select another , i welded up the worn area and filled it to shape , problem solved

Yes - this can only happen if the detents are not correctly assembled...... Take care - if it selects two gears when driving....you'll be looking for a new g'box...

I tend to agree with you - as the gearbox is one part that I have not stripped, inspected and reassembled. I will probably have to bite the bullet and take out the box - my suspicion is that the interlock pin between 1/2 and 3/4 shaft has been omitted when the box was last assembled. On another note, the input shaft bearing is pretty loud (noisy in neutral when the clutch is engaged allowing the shaft to rotate) - you wouldn't happen to know the dimensions or bearing number for the input shaft bearing? (late model "ridged or lumpy backed" gearbox).

If the box has been stored -'nose down' at any time - all the tiny bits of crap run down into that front bearing. The one I have waiting to go in is marked RLS8NR made by www.schgroup.com
