Getting Tyred...

Bought a set of Minor wheels off Ebay (cheap) with the intention of stripping, painting and fitting new 145 or 155 tyres without taking Bertie off the road. Stripped the old cross plies last night and measured the rim width, 3" not 3.5"!!! Didn't know Minors used 3", are these from an early Minor? Not sure I want to fit even 145's on a 3" rim.

All the wheels are the same width except 8cwt vans and will happily accept 155/14 tyres. Early Series MM/II wheels have a 4.5 in PCD so will not ft M1000 hubs (4 in PCD)

As Mike says, all Minor 1000 cars had 3.00" width wheels right upto the end of production. I personally think they drive best on 145 section radial tyres but many owners use 155 section tyres without problems.

Many thanks, both, I thought these wheels looked identical to the ones on Bertie but had read several posts suggesting Minor wheels are 3.5". Mine are definitely 3" wide and are stamped 36E 3.00 x 14 LP802. There seems to be some confusion in the various posts but I believe that 3.5" is incorrect and I have attached a copy from the standard by which wheel and tyre measurements are defined:[frame]Image[/frame]

And the 4.5" wheels are probably only really 4". We just like to keep our spirits up by measuring rim to rim rather than bead ledge to bead ledge.....  And yes - 145 (= 5.71 " ) is already 'pushing it' on a 3" wheel - 155 (= 6.1 " is definitely OTT )
