Build Date of my Morris

Post by Bathurst Morris »

G'day from Australia,
New member here. I recently bought a Morris Minor 1000, or so I'm told it is, off ebay here in Australia. I bid, not expecting to win, however I did then had to make a 2000klm round trip to Melbourne to pick it up. It was described as a 1950 MM and not much more. When I arrived to pick it up, the lady from whom I had purchased it wasn't home and it would be another hour and a half before she would be. Keen to get back home, we loaded it onto the trailer, and without any further information on the morrie, returned home. The front brakes, discs, had been removed and were apart needing repairs. When contacted, the women who sold me morrie told me that like the engine, they were Toyota brakes. Wrong. They were off a LH Torana. So,I'm wondering, is it a 1950 model or what? The plate attached to the firewall tells me: Car number; 197913, Engine number APHM 22209. If anyone can help I would be most grateful as I need to buy some parts for the vehicle and don't want to be ordering the wrong parts.
The car cost me $1,800 dollars and is in pretty reasonable condition, so overall I'm pretty chuffed with my buy.

Herb.

The APHM number indicates it's a Series II so definitely not a 1950 unless the ID tags have been swapped between cars.

Do you have any pictures or the eBay link?

The Torana discs are normally sourced from HBs, not LHs.
From what I've seen, LHs are all 5 stud hubs, unless the 4cyl cars were 4 stud.

Spring 1953 with an 803cc engine - 1950 = 918 side valve

Any other plates on the firewal?

EX/A or Z prefixed id plates?

Chris

Thankyou Steve and Pommreg for your replies. Have found a thin metal strip over the windscreen washer bottle on RH side with following. Z.15821-2.....R.33920......BMF 33609. The engine bay has been resprayed and this and the other plates have been screwed into the firewall. Does this help. Steve, links to ebay long gone.

Car body number comes back as a match for a 4dr.

Should have FA51 chassis prefix?

EX/A prefix plates usually held on by chassis plate screws.

PommReg, the chassis prefix no. is Car no. FAE21/197913. Would there be anymore identifying numbers hidden anywhere else that might help?
