Rear hub removal ease?

Hello all,

I think I've got a leaking oil seal on one of my rear wheels. Will I need to buy one of those claw-like hub pullers to remove the hub, or will it just slide off?

Liam.

The hub removal is usually very easy, just pulls off. Changing the oil seal cleanly without damaging the seating sueface takes a bit longer and a bit more care.
Remove brake drum. Remove half-shaft. PLEASE use the correct size spanner to remove the retaining nut, and not a chisel or similar. Remember that left hand side has a left hand thread. Worst case now is that you might need a slide hammer attached to the hub to jolt it loose, but 80% of the time I find that the hub comes off by hand. The three leg pullers need a centre to bear on, and there is just the hole down the centre of the axle.

Chisel used carefully works fine for me.....and just refit the wheel and use that as a 'lever' to wiggle the hub off - if it doesn't pull off by hand.
