Front Valance width.

Has anybody got a front valance which they could measure the width of at the back edge to edge. My car has an early valance which is incorrect for the car I have been given a replacement which at 58 inches is 1/2 an inch wider at the back than the one on my car and so sticks out at one side the other problem is upon looking at it the other end has been ground down.

Apart from the lowlight valance the front valances are all the same length. The difference is in the cutaway around the grille/wing join and the position of the hole for the overrider mounting bolt which on the cheesegrater grille is in line with edge of the grille and on the slatted grille is in line with the bumper mounting iron. Likewise the chrome bar is different, the aforementioned holes being in different positions. I do not think that the wrong valance will fit on the early or later car. If you have an unwanted early valance I am sure that someone will be willing to relieve you of of it as they are in short supply

Thanks, mine is a late car 1967 with an early valance fitted which as you say has a different profile. I have promised to give it to a club member who is restoring an early car when I replace it.

I need to know what the measurement should be as the replacement I currently have is wider by a 1/2 inch so I'm hoping it is the replacement I have that is wrong and I can get another which will be a better fit.
Thanks :D

If the two overrider mounting bolt holes, or if no overriders then the larger chrome bolts, line up with the bumper mounting bars then you have the later valance

The chrome bumpers are the same length for all except LCVs therefore the valances are the same length

You'll probably find the 'wider' one has had a little parking nudge at some time in its life and is slightly flatter across the front which pushes the ends out and hence makes for a bad fit round the wings. There's plenty of Minors around with this problem. No doubt someone will be on soon with the proper measurement, but they all should be the same. If not its bent...
I'll run a tape over acouple at work just to see.

Thanks,
After having another look at the replacement I have it appears to have had work on the side that is standing proud.
