Alloy Rocker Cover and breather

Having been given an A series alloy rocker cover without a breather take off is it possible to use it and blank off the breather intake to the carb or.... will I end up with oil leaks and oil mist everywhere. The tappet chest vent is present but open ended. Thank you

Yes -you will end up with leaks, and oil on the clutch.

You could fit the later tappet chest breather that has an oil condenser and connect that to the carb/air filter and use your rocker cover with no breather. Just make sure you clean out the pipe as a second hand one will almost certainly be blocked. It has wire wool in it and I replaced mine with a stainless steel pot scourer.

If you really MUST use the (ghastly - I think) alloy cover - drill and tap it and fit a breather pipe...

I also think they are ghastly. Here's one that's nearly ready to go on my engine. It was a hideous rusty mess covered in silver hammerite.....

Why not just do up the original one if it's tatty?

I am so glad that there is such a diversity of opinion on this forum.
What is one mans meat is another mans poison.
I have run with both alloy and standard rocker covers and it comes down to what you like and nothing else; unless
of course you run say 1.5 - 1 rockers then you may have to use an alloy rocker cover so as to allow the rockers to operate without fouling the cover.

And it produced 115hp at the flywheel.
Still have the block but the other parts have either been incorporated in my current 1380cc or sold on.
